LAFAYETTE, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team met Lamar University in Lafayette for a makeup match and the Colonels were defeated, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon.
Carla Bouygues had a perfect day with a win in doubles and No. 2 singles but it was not enough for Nicholls (6-4, 0-2 SLC) to secure its first league win. The win for Lamar was the eighth straight in the series.
Bouygues and
Constanza Cruz evened up doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 2 with
Noemie Piquet and
Dareen Hassan securing the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3. In singles action, Bouygues gave Nicholls a 2-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Marika Mueller at No. 2. But that would be the final point of the match for the Colonels.
Lamar won the next four matches in straight sets to secure the team win. In the final bout, Piquet nearly improved to 2-0 in league play but fell 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-8 at No. 6.
