THIBODAUX, La. – For the second consecutive night, the Nicholls State University baseball team only needed seven innings to beat Southern 10-0 on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Saturday night.
Nicholls scored half of their runs in the sixth frame, highlighted by an
Aaron Biediger RBI double to right field.
Kaden Amundson,
Garrett Felix, and
Edgar Alvarez added RBI singles, while
Drake Anderson brought Biediger home with a sacrifice fly.
The Colonels scored three runs in the second inning. First,
Gerardo Villarreal hit a one run single. He later scored on a throwing error during the same play that saw Amundson reach on a fielder's choice to plate
MaCrae Kendrick.
Narvin Booker Jr. took advantage of a Jaguar mistake to score on a wild pitch in the fourth and Biediger hit a home run for the second consecutive game to put the Red & Gray up 5-0 after five.
The Colonel pitching staff fanned seven, while allowing six hits and only one walk. Freshman pitcher
Dallis Moran went 3.1 innings and struck out four batters in his first collegiate start.
Nico Saltaformaggio came in and pitched two hitless innings, and Auturo Rodriguez (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season.
