Jacob Mayers tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts and
Edgar Alvarez hit a home run in the Nicholls State University baseball team's 4-1 loss to New Orleans on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday night.
Mayers allowed three hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings of action. Alvarez broke up a scoreless pitcher dual when he hammered a solo home run to right field off Colton Mercer in the sixth inning.
The Privateers responded by scoring three runs in the following frame. Diego Villescas hit a one out single to end Mayers night and later scored on a wild pitch by
Nico Saltaformaggio. Then with two down and a full count, UNO took the lead when Miguel Useche laced two RBI double to right field. Villescas added a run in the eighth with an RBI single.
Alvarez finished the day three for four at the plate and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
Gerardo Villarreal and
Parker Coddou added base hits. Saltaformaggio moved to 3-3 on the season after allowing three hits and three earned runs.
