CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team registered 17 hits in its 13-8 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field on Friday night.
After falling behind 5-2, Nicholls scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead.
Parker Coddou, who hit a home run on the first pitch of the game, produced his second RBI of the day with single followed by run scoring base hits by
Gerardo Villarreal and and
Garrett Felix. Later, Villarreal scored on a throwing error to put the Colonels on top.
In the ensuing stanza, the Colonels eruption was highlighted by a
Narvin Booker Jr. two RBI triple after run scoring singles by
Erick Ordonez,
Edgar Alvarez, Coddou, and Felix. Villarreal added an RBI double to his productive day.
The Islanders tried to rally in the eighth when Isaac Webb hit a three-run blast to right center field. However, the Colonels' defense shut the door on the potential comeback to secure the series victory.
Starting pitcher
Jacob Mayers struck out six in 3.2 innings of work, while
Dallis Moran (1-0) earned his first victory of the season after pitching two innings in relief.
The Colonels 17 hits is the most they have recorded in SLC play this season. Felix led the way with four, Coddou and Booker Jr. who had three apiece, while Alvarez and Villarreal each had two.
Aaron Biediger gave the Colonels their second run of the game with a double and
Jaden Collura had a base hit and scored twice.
