HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was beaten 68-62 by Southeastern in at the Pride Roofing University Center on Thursday night.
After falling behind by 15 (28-13) with 6:55 to go in the first half, the Colonels closed the stanza on a 12-2 surge and trailed 30-25 at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Colonels kept the momentum rolling and took a six-point lead after senior guard
Kyla Hamilton hit a three with 2:50 to go in the frame. The Red & Gray led by three going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, Hamilton hit a three to cut the Colonels deficit to one (51-52), however the Lady Lions went on an 11-0 run to go up 63-51 with 3:04 to go in the game. Nicholls tried to rally late and got as close as five, but the Southeastern hit free throws down the stretch to put the game on ice.
Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander led the Colonels with 20 points and nine rebounds, followed by Hamilton who finished with 14 points after hitting a season-high four 3-pointers. For Alexander, this is her sixth 20-point outing.

The Red & Gray (13-17, 7-11 SLC) will compete in the 2024 SLC Tournament next week in Lake Charles. The Colonels secured the No.7 seed and their first-round matchup will be against No. 6 UNO on Monday, March 11.
