Nicholls WBB's Curtis and Alexander Earn SLC Honors

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University guard Britiya Curtis was named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year while sophomore forward Lexi Alexander was named Second Team All-Southland, as the league office announced on Saturday morning.

Curtis becomes the second consecutive Colonel and fourth in program history to earn the Southland's rookie award, joining Alexander (2023), KK Babin (2011), and Heidi Broussard (1999).
 
The Calhoun, Georgia native was one of the most efficient scorers in the SLC. She averaged 10.9 points while shooting 41% percent from the field, and 37.2% from beyond the arc. Her percentages rank 13th and fifth in the league, respectively.
 
In her first season, Curtis reached double figures in 16 contests including nine with at least 15 points. In a win over Texas A&M-Commerce she exploded for 28 points while hitting 10 field goals and 4-8 from long range. Curtis was a two-way force for the Red & Gray as she ranked ninth in the SLC in steals per game (1.6) while racking up 49 steals and having 14 games this season with multiple steals.
 
2nd Team All-Southland
Alexander followed up her rookie of the year campaign with an impressive second season. In conference play, she averaged 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. She shot .378 from the field and .822 from the charity stripe in league play. Her points per game and rebound per game average ranks fifth and eighth in the SLC.
 
The Round Rock, Texas native tallied six double-doubles this season including a career night where she scored 28 points and hauled in 15 boards in a win over Texas A&M-Commerce. Later that week she was named SLC Player of the Week. She finished the season shooting 39.6% from the field and a team-best 78.3% from the charity stripe on 120 attempts.
 
UP NEXT
The Red & Gray (13-17, 7-11 SLC) will compete in the 2024 SLC Tournament next week in Lake Charles. The Colonels secured the No.7 seed and their first-round matchup will be against No. 6 UNO on Monday, March 11.
