THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team outhit but fell 11-10 to Northwestern State University on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Saturday night.

The Red & Gray took a 6-7 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gerardo Villarreal hit two-run single that brought Parker Coddou and Narvin Booker Jr. around.

The Demons regained the lead in the seventh frame after scoring five runs off Devin Desandro who allowed six hits in his third loss of the season. The rally began with a two-run base hit by Clay Jung followed by a three-run homer by Daniel Burroway to put Northwestern State on top 11-7.

In the home half of the frame, Basiel Williams delivered a three-run blast over the right field wall to cut the Colonels' deficit to one. Nicholls couldn't generate any runs in the final two stanzas despite having runners on base.

After falling behind 6-0, the Colonels exploded for five runs in the third inning beginning with an RBI base hit by Edgar Alvarez who later scored on an Aaron Biediger single. With two down, Kade Turnage brought Garrett Felix and Villarreal home with a base knock down the third base line and Drake Anderson plated Biediger with a single up the middle.

Northwestern State's six run eruption in the second inning was highlighted by a two-out inside the park grand slam by Balin Valentine. The Demon's other two runs came on a Reese Lipoma base hit and a fielder's choice.

Starting pitcher Jack Nelson went four full innings and struck out five batters, allowed three hits, and gave up six runs all of which were unearned due to an error and fielder's choice. Michael Guerrero pitched two scoreless innings before Desandro entered the game and Arturo Rodriguez pitched two scoreless frames afterwards.
