HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team scored in each inning of its 14-2 run rule victory over HCU on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels set the tone early as they scored seven runs in the first two innings. After Red & Gray loaded the bases,
Basiel Williams got the scoring started with a base clearing double to right center field in the opening frame.
In the following stanza,
Edgar Alvarez blasted a three-run blast over the center field wall before
Cade Crosby added a run scoring single to put Nicholls up 7-0. In the third,
Parker Coddou plated
Narvin Booker Jr. with a base knock and
Gerardo Villarreal brought
Kaden Amundson home with a sacrifice fly. In the home half of the frame, the Huskies scored their first run on a Trevor Roper single.
With two down in the fourth,
Drake Anderson laced a solo homerun to left field to put the Colonels back up nine. Nicholls added runs via sacrifice flies from Coddou and Alvarez in the fifth and sixth.
After the Huskies added a run on a groundout in the sixth, Williams hit a homerun down the right field line after
Garrett Felix reached on a free pass.
Starting pitcher
Jacob Mayers (3-0) earned his third victory of the season after striking out six batter and allowing two hits and one run in five full frames. Chase Ricther and Dallis Maran pitched one inning apiece in relief.
