Colonels Outlasted by Cardinals in 10 Innings

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team fell 9-7 in 10 innings to Lamar University on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Saturday night.
 
Lamar erased a three-run deficit in the eighth inning to tie the game at 7. Despite the Colonels loading the bases in the eighth and ninth stanzas, the Cardinals were able to get out of the tough situations.
 
Jack Schell broke the tie with a home run to right field to put Lamar up 9-7. Narvin Booker Jr. began the home half of the frame with a leadoff single, but the Colonels hit into a double play and struck out for the game's final outs.
 
The Cardinals began the game by scoring on a sac fly in the top of the first, the Colonels responded by exploding for six runs in the home half of the frame.
 
Parker Coddou tied the game with a leadoff home run to right field. After that Basiel Williams hit a double that allowed Edgar Alvarez, who doubled, to score from second. Williams and MaCrae Kendrick scored on an Erick Ordonez base knock to center field. Ordonez later scored on a Kaden Amundson sacrifice fly after Narvin Booker Jr. hit a single to bring Drake Anderson to the plate.
 
After a scoreless second inning, Lamar score two runs on back-to-back doubles by Brayden Evans and River Orsak. Williams scored on an Ordonez sacrifice fly to put the Colonels up 7-3. Kanin Dodge hit a two out run scoring single to cut the Cardinals deficit to three.
 
After three scoreless innings, Logan Hamm tied the game at 7 with a three-run blast to right field.
 
Starting pitcher Jack Nelson struck out three batters while allowing four hits and four runs in 3.2 innings of work. Devin Desandro allowed four hits, three runs and fanned three in 4.1 innings of action. Arturo Rodriguez picks up his third loss of the season after allowing one hit and two runs in two full innings.
 
For Lamar, starting pitcher Jacob Ellis allowed eight hits and seven runs in three full innings, Foster Kreuzer and Trhea Morse allowed one hit apiece across a combined 4.2 innings, and Austin Neal earned his third victory of the season after allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless frames.
