THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team tallied 14 hits in its 10-3 victory over McNeese on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday afternoon.
The Red & Gray celebrated their 17 seniors after contest and with the victory, Saturday's series finale will be for a share of the 2024 Southland Conference Regular Season Championship.
Starting pitcher
Devin Desandro earned his sixth victory of the season as he struck out five batters while allowing five hits and one run in the longest outing by a Colonel pitcher this season (7.2).
The Colonels exploded for five runs in the third frame.
Parker Coddou, who hit a lead off single, scored on a
Garrett Felix base hit to right field.
Basiel Williams plated
Edgar Alvarez with a single to put the Colonels up 2-0.
Drake Anderson doubled the Red & Gray lead with a base knock that brought Felix and Williams home. Anderson scored on a
MaCrae Kendrick single to put the Red & Gray up 5-0.
The Colonels took advantage of multiple Cowboy mistakes to extend their lead.
In the fourth, Coddou scored as Felix reached on a fielding error. While in the sixth, Alvarez and Felix scored on back-to-back bases loaded walks and Williams scored on a wild pitch to put the Colonels up 9-0.
The Cowboys scored on a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Anderson scored on a
Kaden Amundson groundout in the eighth. McNeese added two runs via a home run and base hit in the ninth.
