THIBODAUX, La. -- Nicholls State University senior guard
Kyla Hamilton was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic First Team as the league office announced Friday morning its basketball academic teams for the 2023-24 campaign.
This season, Hamilton was a steady floor general for the Red & Gray. She constantly stuffed the stat sheet as she averaged 9.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. Her 1.7 steals per game ranked seventh in the SLC and she was the only player in the league to dish over 100 dimes and boasted the best assist to turnover ratio (1.7).
The Moss Bluff native finished the season with 17 double figure scoring outings including a season-best 19 in a blowout victory over McNeese. She had 14 games with at least five rebounds as she tallied nine twice and recorded multiple steals in 13 different contests with a season best five against Eastern Illinois.
Lamar's Akasha Davis headlined the 11-member academic team after being named Student Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for all-academic distinction, an athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the semester prior to the sport's championship.
