HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University track and field teams will compete in the 2024 Southland Conference Outdoor Championship on Holloway Field and Ley Track on May 9-11.
The Colonels competed at the same venue a few weeks ago at the J Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice University. The Colonels had some strong performances to conclude the regular season with some momentum.
In the field,
Christopher Tucker leaped 6.90m in the men's long jump to claim seventh place.
Sydney Brown soared 1.59m to place seventh in the women's high jump.
Jinte Braas placed ninth in the women's long jump with a 5.35m mark.
Amiya Matthews launched the javelin 35.29m to place ninth in the women's event.
In the men's races,
Amari Godette sprinted the 100m dash in 10.73 seconds to place sixth. In the 110m hurdles,
Gavin White clocked a time of 15.98 to place sixth, and in the 400m race, Nisaiah Bennett placed seventh with a time of 49.93. Additionally, Godette and Bennett teamed up with Kahlil Lewis and Michael Trey Crawford to place fourth (41.65) in the 4x100m relay.
In the women's action on the track,
Maria Nikolaou placed ninth in the 800m race after clocking a time of 2:19.04.
Kassidy Besson finished sixth in the 5K with a time of 18:10.39.
Danya Satterfield sprinted the 100m hurdles in 14.69 seconds to place 10th. In the 3K steeplechase,
Issy Rivault finished seventh with a time of 12:06.07.
