THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University first baseman Edgar Alvarez was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South Regional first team while pitcher Jacob Mayers was selected to the second team.
 
Alvarez was a force at the plate and in the field all season for the Red & Gray. The Southland Conference Player of the Year finished the season with the nation's ninth best batting average (.405), 22nd most hits (92), 37th most doubles (21), and hits 53 walks allowed him to boast the 14th best on base percentage (.514). The Orlando, Florida native recorded a hit in all but seven games and reached base in 57 consecutive contests before having his streak broken in the final game.
 
Alvarez had one of the best seasons in program history as he set single-season records for runs scored (76), RBI (67), and total bases (154). Additionally, he is the first Colonel since 1963 to post a batting average over .400. and his 92 hits are the second most in the single season in program history. Along with earning Player of the Year honors, Alvarez was named All-SLC first team, All-SLC Defensive team, and to the All-SLC Tournament squad for the second consecutive season. He was also named to the All-Regional Team for his performance in the Corvallis region in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Mayers followed up a stellar freshman campaign with a Southland-leading 106 strikeouts and a .165 opponent batting average. The Gonzales, Louisiana native ranked third in the NCAA in hits per nine (4.97) and 15th in Ks per nine (13.50). He went 5-1 with a 4.58 ERA in 70.2 innings, fanned a season-high 12 batters against New Orleans in 6.1 innings, and had 10 Ks against Southeastern and Lamar. Mayers struck out an SLC-best 60 batters with a .150 average in league play.
