• The Nicholls State University football team makes its home debut with a nonconference matchup with Mississippi Valley State. For the fourth time in as many weeks, the Colonels and their opponent will be battling for their first win of the season as both squads head into the contest with 0-3 records. Kickoff in Guidry Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be listened to on ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM.

• Nicholls is slated for another late home opener which has become a tradition for the Colonels under head coach Tim Rebowe. Although it is already Week 4, the Sept. 21st date is only the fifth latest Guidry debut for the Colonels in Rebowe's nine fall campaigns. Under Rebowe, the Colonels are 6-3 in their Guidry debut and 29-23 all-time.

• In its final contest on its three-game road swing to start the season, Nicholls fell behind 24-0 in the first half at No. 11 Sacramento State and despite its second defensive touchdown of the season coming before the break, the Colonels could never mount a comeback in their 34-7 loss. Defensive back Ty Marsh provided the scoring for the night as he returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter. The Colonel defense held Sacramento State to a field goal for most of the second half until the Hornets threw a touchdown pass with less than two minutes remaining to make the final.

• The matchup with Mississippi Valley State is just the third meeting against the SWAC in the Tim Rebowe era. Nicholls hosted Prairie View A&M in 2017 and earned a 44-13 win over the Panthers. Then in '19, the Colonels fell behind on the road at PVAMU before scoring 29 straight points for a 42-35 comeback victory. Nicholls was slated to play Mississippi Valley in 2020 but the season was canceled. The Colonels are slated to play SWAC member Southern in two weeks.

A WIN OVER MVSU WOULD...

... give Nicholls a 31-15 record at home in the Rebowe Era.
... snap a two-game skid in home openers, improving their all-time record to 30-23. Nicholls had won six straight before dropping their last two.
... put Nicholls 2-0 all-time against MVSU. The Colonels won the lone previous meeting, 41-26,  in 1998 at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
... secure a nonconference victory for the Colonels for the sixth time in 10 years under Rebowe. After the first two campaigns, Nicholls won a nonconference game in five straight seasons before going 0-for in the last two years.
... improve Coach Rebowe's record vs. the SWAC to 3-0. Nicholls won a home-and-home against Prairie View A&M in 2017 and '19.
