NATCHITOCHES, La. - Coming off back-to-back victories, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team was unable to carry that momentum into its league opener as the Colonels were defeated 2-0 at Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon.
NSU (5-4-1, 1-0 SLC) scored a goal in each half to extend its winning streak to five matches.Â
Nicholls (2-4-1, 0-1 SLC) allowed a pair of goals to the Lady Demons in last season's finale as well in the 2-2 draw but were held to five total shots with none on goal on Sunday.
Megan Cook had two saves for the Colonels as NSU fired off 15 total shots. Taylor Spitzer snuck in a header from a lob pass by Isabella Ruggiano in the 14th minute for the 1-0 advantage. In the second half, Ruggiano added her own goal to make the final.
