THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team swept Northwestern State University to earn its first Southland Conference victory of the season inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls' offense was clicking on all cylinders as they registered 43 kills while posting their third best hitting percentage (.298) of the season. The Colonels set the tone early with 14 kills while hitting .281 from the floor in the opening stanza. The unit kept the momentum rolling into the second frame as they posted 17 kills while hitting .500 from the floor. However, the squad relied on its defense in the final set as they hit .125 from the floor while forcing the Lady Demons to hit .051.
The Red & Gray attack was paced effortlessly by setter
Isabella Padilla who dished 36 assists. She mostly set up
Tamara Chavez who led the offense with 19 kills.
Tierney Terrell and
Melanie Guevara added eight and five kills respectively. Terrell led all scorers with three service aces while Chavez and Karina had one apiece.
Thhe Colonel defense was anchored by
Karina Smith who had 13 digs followed by Terrell (6) and Chavez (4).
Neriah Tualaulelei-Malele led the unit with five blocks while Guevara and
Harper Holden had three apiece.
