NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team's quest for a fifth straight point came to an end as Stephen F. Austin scored two goals in the final 32 minutes to hand the Colonels a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls (4-8-5, 1-4-4) had kept itself in playoff contention with four consecutive draws but could not knock off SFA (7-3-9, 5-1-4 SLC) for the first time since 2018. With the loss, the Colonels will need a victory in the regular season finale against Northwestern State for a chance at the postseason. Kickoff at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Lumberjacks controlled most of the match with a 26-8 advantage in shots and an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. But it wasn't until the 68th minute that Kamrynn Davis broke the scoreless tie with her first career goal. Then 10 minutes later, Alex Bayouth made it 2-0 with her second goal of the season.
For the Colonels,
Mylea Riggle and Angelica Rispone had shots on goal in the first half, while
Lillie Mazur had the lone one in the second.
Aislinn Wright totaled 10 saves in the loss while Sierra McCluer had three for SFA.
