TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was beaten 89-64 Florida State University inside the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Nicholls got out to a great start as they constantly turned defense into offense throughout the first half. The Colonels defensive intensity forced eight turnovers while the offense connected on nine field goals to generate a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Colonels went up by as much as 13 (28-15) following a
Jesslynn Jalomo triple. However, the Red & Gray offense went cold and allowed the Seminoles to claw back into the game with 13-2 run across the final 4:40 of the first half. The contest was tied at 35 at the intermission.
Nicholls' offense struggled out of the break as the unit connected on six field goals compared to nine for FSU in the third. The Seminoles closed the third quarter on a 11-2 run to take a 15-point (63-48) lead into the final stanza. The Colonels were unable to match the Seminoles scoring in the second half as the FSU connected on 10 shots from long range to keep their distance.
The Red & Gray offense finished with two double figure scorers as
Sh'Diamond McKnight and
Emani Burks paced the offense with 11 points apiece.
Marie Kenembeni aand Jalomo added eight points a piece while
Reese Hoadley and India combined for 13 points off the bench.
