THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will host Mississippi Valley State University on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 pm. The action from Stopher Gym will be streamed via ESPN+.
Last week, Nicholls (2-2) had a double figure lead early but fell to Florida State in Tallahassee before returning home and defeating Louisiana 66-64 in a thrilling home opener. The Red & Gray offense features three players averaging double digits.
Jesslynn Jalomo and
Sh'Diamond McKnight average 12.5 points while
Jasmine Matthews averages 10.
Emani Burks leads the squad with six rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game and
Anyra Wilson dishes three assists while having 1.5 takeaways per game.
MVSU (1-3) began the season against tough competition as they dropped road contests against Troy, Mississippi State, and Auburn before returning home and defeating Lipscomb (72-68) in their home opener. The Devilletes offense is balanced as Ariel Jefferson is the lone double figure scorer as she averages 10.5 per game while also leading the team in rebounds per game (6). Sydnei Marshall, Janiya Jones, Kylah McCullers, and Jaeda Murphy score between 7 and 7.8 points per contest.
The Colonels lead the series against MVSU 6-1 dating back to 2012 including back to back wins in the last two meetings.
