THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will play its final home game of 2025 as the Colonels host Houston Christian University on Wednesday night (Dec. 17) on Broussard Court at Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls (2-7, 1-0 SLC) has won two straight at home after starting the season winless in seven road games. The Colonels notched their first victory in their home debut -- a 74-67 win over UIW -- and are just one of three teams without a loss in conference through just two weeks of league play.
The Colonels will look to continue their success in the series against HCU (5-6, 1-2 SLC), which is coming off a 78-68 loss to McNeese on Monday. Nicholls has won the last 11 meetings against HCU including a 75-67 win in Thibodaux in their lone matchup last season.
In the victory over UIW,
Jalik Dunkley scored 19 points to lead a trio of Colonels in double figures, but it was the defensive effort that carried Nicholls to the win. The defense held UIW to 38 percent shooting and 1 of 14 from three-point range. Last season, Nicholls was one of the top teams in the nation at defending the three-point line.
HCU secured a pair of Division I wins before knocking off New Orleans on the road in its league opener. But the Huskies fell short in their next two SLC contests at home, falling 74-71 to Southeastern before Monday's setback against McNeese.
The Huskies feature the league's top assist man, Kylin Green, who is averaging 6.1 per contest. He's had two games with double figures in assists with 13 in a win over ULM and 10 versus SLU. He is also one of three Huskies averaging double figures in points, ranking second on the team at 11.9 ppg.
