THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten by Omaha 5-2 on a wet and cloudy Tuesday night on Ray E. Didier Field.
Following two scoreless frames from the starting pitchers, both teams scored runs in the third inning.
With runners on first and second and a pair of outs on the board, Jackson Trout homered to left field to put the Mavericks up 3-0. In the home half of the stanza, the Colonels responded with a two out run scoring single by
Aaron Biediger.
In the ensuing frame and after a pair of one out walks,
Karson Irvin laced a single up the middle to plate
Fisher Ingersoll. Colonels trailed 3-2 after four frames.
Omaha added runs via a sacrifice fly and fielder's choice in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively to extend their lead to three.
Both teams finished with seven hits.
Jaden Collura and Irvin tallied two apiece while
Chase Jans,
Tyler Johnson, and Biediger each had one. On the mound,
Koen van 'T Klooster struck out four batters, allowed two hits and three runs in five innings of work.
Luke McGibboney allowed five hits and two runs in 3.1 innings of action.
