THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will conclude its home slate starting with Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 22 before hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Before Saturday's matchup with UTRGV which will begin around 3:30 p.m., Nicholls (16-10, 10-6 SLC) will recognize its 2025 Senior Class --
Robert Brown III,
Mekhi Collins,
Byron Ireland,
Caleb Robinson,
Jaylen Searles, and
Jamal West Jr.
With four games remaining, the Colonels are tied for fourth place in the Southland Conference standings with Monday's opponent -- the Islanders (17-11, 10-6 SLC). AMCC took the earlier meeting so Nicholls will need a win to force a tiebreaker scenario for seeding in the SLC Tournament. The top two teams receive byes into the semifinals while seeds 3 and 4 receive one bye.
Nicholls is coming off a road win at New Orleans -- its seventh of the season -- to snap a two-game overall skid. The Colonels have yet to lose three consecutive games this season. Nicholls trailed only after the opening points at UNO and led by as much as 21 en route to the sweep of the Privateers. Ireland scored a game-high 19 points while West notched his fourth double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
UTRGV is looking to stay alive in the postseason race after its loss to UIW on Monday dropped them to ninth place in the SLC. The Vaqueros lost the previous matchup to the Colonels, 82-75, to close out January.
