BATON ROUGE, La. – Following the first weekend sweep of the season, the Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten 13-3 by LSU inside Alex Box Stadium on Monday night.
Nicholls (5-2) offense was clicking early as the first two batters of the game,
Chase Jans and
Jaden Collura, began the game with consecutive base hits.
Logan Mock reached on a fielding error by the third baseman to load the bases. With one down,
Tyler Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Jans.
The Colonels 1-0 lead did not last long as LSU scored four runs on two hits in the home half of the opening stanza.
After beginning the game with a fly out, strikeout, and walk, Daniel Dickinson laced a run scoring single to left field. The Tigers second run game via a bases loaded walk before Steven Milam plated two with a base hit up the middle. The Tigers extended their lead in the second frame via a Jared Jones home run.
Following two scoreless frames,
Karson Irvin singled to center field and circled the bases on three consecutive wild pitches. In the home half, the Tigers added five runs on four hits and one error. The stanza was highlighted by a Milam three run blast that was followed by a Jones run scoring single that put the Tigers up 10-2.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Colonels scored their final run when
Logan Mock reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Irvin to score. The Tigers added three runs on two hits and one error in the seventh to end the game via run rule.
