THIBODAUX, La. – Sophomore guard
Britiya Curtis led all scorers with 19 points in the Nicholls State University women's basketball team's 67-53 loss to East Texas A&M inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels struggled in the first half, connecting on 7 of 25 field goals (28%). The unit began the game 1-9 from the field and started the second stanza 1-6. After the Colonels took a 13-10 lead into the second quarter, the Lions hit eight field goals and led 33-23 at the intermission.
Nicholls came out the break on fire and hit eight field goals in the third quarter, but the Lions were able to keep their distance as they hit seven shots. The Colonels hit four shots in the final stanza to finish with a conference play low 19 made field goals.
Curtis was the lone Colonel in double figures while the Lions had four players reach double digits. Jordyn Newsome led the way with 18 followed by Cora (12) and Nina (11) Horvath, and Jamy De Kock (10).
