LAKE CHARLES, La. –Despite doubling their opponent's' hit total, the Nicholls State University baseball team fell to McNeese 2-1 at Joe Miller Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls (5-6, 0-2 SLC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after
Karson Irvin, who was one of three Colonels to walk in the opening frame, scored on a
Jaden Collura sacrifice fly.
The Red & Gray lead didn't last long as the Cowboys tied the game with a run scoring base hit in the second inning before taking a 2-1 lead via an error in the third.
The Colonels finished with 10 hits as
Logan Mock led the way with three while
Narvin Booker Jr. had two including one double.
Tyler Johnson,
Logan Mallard,
Fisher Ingersoll, Collura and Irvin had one hit apiece.
Starting pitcher
Alec Sparks (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. He tallied eight strikeouts and allowed four hits in six innings of work.
Nuno Parache allowed one hit in 1.2 innings of work before
Cole Poirrier picked up a huge eighth inning ending punchout with runners on the corner.
