NACODOCHES, Texas – In the final regular season contest of the season the Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell 79-56 to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls (16-13, 9-11 SLC) got out to a slow start offensively as they hit one field goal in the opening quarter while SFA (26-5, 16-4) led 19-3 after 10 minutes. The Ladyjacks only connected on five field goals but hit seven foul shots to build their lead.
After only scoring 16 points in the first half, the Colonels hit 10 field goals and four free throws to score 25 points in the third stanza. However, SFA connected on eight field goals and scored 20 points to keep their distance.
The Colonels hit six field goals in the final quarter but couldn't keep the Ladyjacks off the foul line as they matched their seven made free throws with their seven made field goals to extend their lead.
The Red & Gray offense was spearheaded by
Britiya Curtis who hit nine field goals including four from beyond the arc to score a game high 22 points whole having five steals.
Laryn Scott scored 10 points in the third quarter to record the first double figure scoring outing of her career.
Elli Garnett added eight points while hauling in a game high 11 boards.
