LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will take on No. 7 UIW in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament on Monday night at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+ and KLEB 102.7 FM | 1600 AM.
Nicholls (19-12) repeated last season's third-place finish to earn a bye into the quarterfinals for the second straight year. Last season, the Colonels won two games in the postseason and reached the SLC championship for the fourth time in school history.
UIW (17-15) will be the first test for the Colonels after the Cardinals won in overtime Sunday night against No. 6 Southeastern. Davion Bailey and Jalin Anderson led UIW with 20 points each in the program's first-ever SLC tournament victory.
Nicholls and UIW placed once this season in San Antonio with the Colonels leaving with an 88-82 victory.
Robert Brown III sparked the win with a career-high 37 points, draining 9 of 10 from three-point range.
For the season, Brown led four Colonels in double-figure scoring at 13.1 points per game, followed by
Jamal West Jr. (12.1 ppg),
Byron Ireland (11.8) and
Michael Gray Jr. (11.3). West was the lone Colonel to be named All-Southland as he earned second team for the second time in as many seasons. West led Nicholls with 6.4 rebounds and 45 totals blocks on the season.
A win for the Colonels would be their 20th overall, giving the program just its ninth 20-win campaign. In his second year at the helm, Coach
Tevon Saddler would become the first coach in school history to earn back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The winner of Monday night's game will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 Lamar at 8:30 p.m.
