THIBODAUX, La. – Following a few weeks of rest, the Nicholls State University men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor season by tallying 12 top 10 finishes at the Louisiana Classics on March 21-22 in Lafayette.
The action from Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex started on Friday with the discus and javelin competitions while the remainder of the events were on Saturday. The field Louisiana hosted included Alcorn, Centenary, Dillard, McNeese, Southern, Southeastern, ULM, and Xavier.
The Red & Gray had two flights finish within the top three in the relay events. In the women's 4x800m relay the combination of Maria Nikoulou,
Isabelle Seijhouwer,
Layla Ingalls, and Anne de Jong placed second with a time of 9:30.97 while
Kalin Baratka,
Kalynn Beacom,
Payton Theriot, and
Lotte Aerts clocked a time of 10:49.17 to finish third.
In the men's 4x800m relay the combination of
William Nizzo,
William Bellina, Ceasar Gonzalez, and Goran Duijusters placed second with time of 8:10.51 while
Jake Fabacher,
Alex Hartline,
Adam Gautreaux, and
Ty Fraizer placed third with a time of 8:37.96. Nisaiah Bennett, Michael "Trey" Crawford,
Andrei Fuentes, and Jodan Jackson sprinted the 4x100m relay in 41.89 seconds to claim fifth.
Both teams had strong showings in the field. For the women's squad,
Sydney Brown soared 1.58 meters in the high jump and 10.77m in the triple jump to claim seventh place in both events.
Jinte Braas leaped 5.26m to finish eighth in the long jump while
Gracie Baker threw the javelin 34.88m to placed 10th in the event.
On the men's side,
Gavin Windham launched the javelin 51.35m to place sixth.
Andrei Fuentes soared 6.52m to place seventh in the long jump. On the track,
Ty Fraizer (16:50.67) placed eighth in the men's 5K and Nisaiah Bennett (10.81) finished ninth in the men's 100m race.
