THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team recorded 12 hits in its 7-2 sweep clinching victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind 1-0 early on Nicholls (8-9, 3-3 SLC) responded by scoring five runs across the third and fourth innings to take a 5-2 lead.
In the third,
Noah Detillier got the action started with a leadoff walk. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a balk before scoring on a ground out by
Chase Jans. The Colonels took the lead when
Jaden Collura blasted a solo home run to right field.
The Colonels added three runs on five hits in the fourth.
Fisher Ingersoll hit a leadoff double to left center but was later caught stealing. With two down following a strikeout,
Christian Westcott laced a double to center field before scoring on a Detillier home run to left field.
After three scoreless frames the Colonels added two runs in the eighth. Following a one out base hit by Wescott, Detillier walked, and the pair advanced a base on a wild pitch. With one down and runners in scoring position
Karson Irvin brought Westcott home via sacrifice fly before Detiller scored on a wild pitch.
Offensively,
Logan Mock, Jans, Wescott and Detillier led the way with two hits apiece while
Aaron Biediger, Ingersoll, Collura and Irvin had one each. On the mound, staring pitcher
Dalton Hill allowed six hits and two runs while recording three strikeouts in five innings of work. Relief pitcher
Nuno Parache had four strikeouts in three scoreless stanzas while
Cole Poirrier had two punchouts in the ninth to close the game.

The Red & Gray will play a pair of mid-week games. First the unit will battle Tulane in New Orleans on Tuesday March 11 at 6:30 p.m. before facing Mississippi State in Biloxi, Mississippi on Wednesday, March 12.
