BEAUMONT, Texas. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten by Lamar 16-5 at Vincent-Beck Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams scored in the opening inning as Nicholls' (12-24, 6-15 SLC) leadoff batter
Narvin Booker Jr. hit a single and later scored on a ground out to pout the Colonels up 1-0. However, Lamar (30-8, 12-6 SLC) also scores on a groundout after their leadoff batter earned a walk.
Next, the Cardinals scored six runs across the next two innings on four hits and five walks to take a 7-1 lead heading into the fourth. The Red & Gray responded with three runs on four hits in the fourth stanza to cut into the deficit.
Logan Mock singled before scoring from second on a Booker Jr. base knock up the middle. Next,
Jaden Collura walked before him and Booker Jr. scored on consecutive base hits by
Chase Jans and
Carter Jenkins. Following a quick home frame, the Colonels trailed 7-4 heading into the fifth.
The Cardinals scored nine runs on six hits in the fifth stanza to take control of the game. The Colonels scored their finial run in the sixth inning on a ground out.
