THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to No. 1 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

With the loss, Nicholls finishes with a .500 record at 11-11. The Islanders advance to the semifinals after securing their second win this season against the Colonels.

AMCC started off with a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. Omar Suarez/Etienne Marty won 6-2 over Maxwell Lindstedt/Marcell Marki at No. 2 before Matthieu Coignet/Nathan Favier upended Felipe Spagnuolo/Michael Wood, 6-3.

In singles action, Suarez was the first Islander to finish as he won in straight sets against Colin Tavares, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. Marty then followed with a straight-set over Wood at No. 5, taking both sets 6-2.

Needing one more point to clinch, Nicolas Trebuchet ended the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Marcell Marki at No. 3.

Although the Colonels did not win a set against AMCC, Kotaro Matsumura held a 3-0 lead in his second set on the top line against Favier.
