NEW ORLEANS, La. – After taking game one of the weekend series, the Nicholls State University baseball team loss the final two road contests of the season on Maestri Field on May 3-4.
GAME ONE: Nicholls (2) UNO (3)
Game two of the series was a defensive battle that saw Nicholls (16-29, 8-17 SLC) tally 10 hits and leave nine base runners stranded. Both starting pitchers put on a clinic as Nicholls'
Alec Sparks tallied six strikeouts while allowing three hits and two runs in seven full frames of action. Additionally, he retired the side in order four times.
After UNO broke the scoreless tie on a run scoring single in the fifth. The Colonels responded quickly with two runs in the sixth. With two down,
Aaron Biediger plated
Jaden Collura and
Carter Jenkins who reached on a base hit and walk respectively.
Despite doubling the hit production of UNO, the Colonels were unable to take advantage of having runners in scoring position multiple times. The Privateers' Collin Husser homered to left field to tie the game in the seventh.
Following a scoreless eighth inning where relief pitcher
Joseph Bordelon struck out the side. UNO loaded the bases in the ninth with two singles and a walk before scoring on a fielding error to end the game.
GAME TWO: Nicholls (4) UNO (9)
Sunday's rubber match began with an offensive explosion as the teams combined for six runs in the opening frame.
After recording two quick outs, Nicholls (16-30, 9-18 SLC) scored two runs on five consecutive walks to prompt a quick pitching change for UNO. In the home half of the frame the Privateers score four runs on a grand slam by Husser.
The Colonels bats went cold as the unit tallied three hits one of which was a solo home run to left field by
Aaron Biediger in the sixth. UNO added a run via hit by pitch in the third, before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth. The Red & Gray's final run came when
Logan Mock scored on a
Logan Mallard sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Red & Gray will conclude the regular season with home games against Jackson State (May 6) and Southeastern (May 8-10).
