THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will begin year two under head coach
Kristy Helmers in a road contest at Grambling on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Colonels welcome back 18 returners while adding 14 newcomers. Helmers gave her thoughts on how the team performed in the preseason and how a strong start to the season can benefit the squad.
"The early parts of the season are important for us to build chemistry and sharpen our identity. We've brought in some exciting young players and impactful transfers who have blended well with a strong group of returners. From the first day of preseason, we've set high standards and focused on doing the little things right. These early games will be key in continuing that growth and preparing us to be more competitive as we head into conference play."
Despite having multiple veterans all over the pitch, midfielder
Mylea Riggle is the only returner who has a goal as she put one in the back of the net against Mississippi Valley State last season.
