THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will begin Southland Conference play across state lines against UIW in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The action will be streamed via ESPN+.
Nicholls (3-4-1) enters SLC action with the most wins they've had since 2019. Last time on the pitch, the Colonels rallied from two goals down to beat Alabama State 3-2 on the road.
The Red & Gray's point leader is
Avery Mondoux who leads the team with four goals and is one of five Colonels with an assist. Mondoux was dominant in the victory over ASU as she scored twice and found
Sammi Doyle for an assist. Mondoux's two-goal performance was the first for her career and first for the Colonels since
Koryn Barrett scored twice in a win over Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 9 of last season. With her assist and two goals, Mondoux's five points were also the most for a Colonel since Blaire Laiche had six in a match in 2019.
Mylea Riggle has seven points this season as she has three goals and one assist, while
Kaylie Harris has scored twice.
Sara Sigurdsson,
Kate Guillory, and
Sammi Doyle have added one goal apiece while
Alyssa Wheeler and
Angelina Rispone have tallied assists.
Aislinn Wright has started all eight games in goal for the Colonels tallying 29 saves and one shutout.
Kate Newchurch has seen action in two games including the victory over the Hornets as she kept the Hornets off the board, finishing with three saves in 67 minutes.
UIW (2-3-1) is coming off a scoreless tie at Texas Southern and a home loss to UTSA. After hosting the Colonels, the Cardinals will host Lamar on Sunday.
The Cardinals offense is led by Alex Knutson who lead the team with three goals and has scored in both of the teams wins this season. Taylor Kish who has scored one goal and has one assist leads the Cardinal defense in minutes, playing 529 of 540 possible minutes. Hannah Alexander has played every minute in goal and has 29 saves.
