THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team (10-1) secured its eighth sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over Alcorn State University inside Stopher Gym on Wednesday night.
Along with the eighth sweep of the season the Colonels have secured the most non-conference victories to start a season since 2011 (13).
Nicholls' offense was clicking on all cylinders as the unit posted 42 kills and hit .226 percent from the floor. The team started strong as they tallied 19 kills in the first set to outlast Alcorn 27-25. The Red & Gray stout defense sealed the deal in set two and three by forcing the Lady Braves to post negative hitting percentages in both frames to finish with a 0.00 percent for the contest.
The Colonels offense was run effortlessly by setter
Isabella Padilla who dished 31 assists while chipping in with nine digs defensively. The attack was led by reigning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Tamara Chavez who registered 13 kills and 11 digs to claim her fourth double-double of the season.
Maelie Chupin tallied double figure kills for the fourth consecutive contest as she finished with a season-best 12 while hitting .346 from the floor.
Harper Holden added 10 points for the Colonels as she recorded six kills, four blocks and two service aces. Libero
