THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will cross state lines to battle Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 25) before returning home to host McNeese (Sept. 28) at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Nicholls enters the week 3-5-1 after suffering a 0-2 loss at UIW to being Southland Conference action. In that game the Colonels were never able to get anything going offensively, being outshot 15-2 while seeing an 8-0 UIW advantage in corner kicks. The lone shot on goal came in the 23rd minute after a cross ricocheted off the crossbar and bounced to
Mylea Riggle for a short attempt. In the second half,
Paityn Bruce sent a shot high before UIW's Montana Mathews added the second goal of the night.
Aislinn Wright saw all 90 minutes at goalkeeper and finished with 10 saves.
The Islanders are 2-4-3 overall after battling Houston Christian to a tough scoreless tie. In their third tie of the season the Islanders took 12 shots and two on goal as opposed to 15 and four on target for the Huskies while nearly evenly splitting the possession battle.
McNeese enters the weekend 1-7-2 overall after suffering a 4-0 loss at Stephen F. Austin. The Cowgirls will host East Texas A&M on Sept. 25 before heading to Thibodaux on Sunday.
