Colonels Falter Late Against Lions

COMMERCE, TX – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team ended its three-game road swing with a 68-57 loss against East Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that was a true tale of two halves, Nicholls (10-10, 6-7 SLC) threw the first punch as they generated a 13-point lead midway through the second quarter.  Sh'Diamond McKnight scored eight points across the first 20 minutes while the Red & Gray defense allowed the Lions to shoot 28% from the field to help the Colonels lead by seven at the intermission.

The Colonels offense went cold in the second half as they shot 37.9% from the field while the Lions found their rhythm as they connected on 15 field goals (57.7%). Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week continued her stout play as she scored 13 of her team high 19 points in the second half. She was the lone Colonel to reach double figures as McKnight finished with nine while Tanita Swift and Jasmine Matthews added eight apiece.

In a game that saw seven lead changes the Colonels tallied six more rebounds and points in the paint, however the Lions connected on six more triples. The Red & Gray have dropped under .500 in SLC play, has lost three straight contests to ETAMU and now trail the all-time series 6-1 since the Lions joined the league in 2022.
