THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will continue Southland Conference play in road games McNeese (Jan. 8) and New Orleans (Jan. 10).
Last week, Nicholls (7-5, 3-2 SLC) picked up a pair of road victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (63-57) and UTRGV (66-56) before dropping a home contest against Northwestern State (46-50).
The Colonels offense is led by three double figure scorers.
Tanita Swift returned from injury at the beginning of SLC play and leads the way with 12.8 per game.
Jasmine Matthews averages 11.5. while
Jesslynn Jalomo adds 10.9.
Anyra Wilson paces the offense with 3.3 assists per game while
Emani Burks leads the squad in rebounding hauling in 6.3 per game.
The Red & Gray defense has been stout this season as the unit ranks within the top 100 nationally in turnovers forced (79th), steals per game (82nd), and opponent field goal percentage (99th).
McNeese (10-4, 4-1 SLC) is currently in a three-way tie for first place as they beat UIW, HCU, and Lamar in their last three contests. The Cowgirls are led by Dakota Howard and Arianna Patton who average 12.4 and 10.1, respectively. Jalencia Pierre dishes 3.6 assists per game while Lexi Alexander and Howard lead the team in rebounds with 5.6 and 5.4.
New Orleans (0-13, 0-5 SLC) dropped two road contests last week against UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a home game against East Texas A&M. The Privateers are led by Shanihya Brown who scores 13.1 points per game. Lauren Banks leads the team with 5.1 rebounds while Brown dishes 4.1 assists per contest.
