THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will play a road match against McNeese on Friday, Oct. 2. Kickoff from Cowgirl Field in Lake Charles is scheduled for 6 p.m.
NICHOLLS BENCH
Nicholls (3-3-5) earned multiple points last week as they won a home match against UIW (1-0) and tied Lamar (2-2) in Beaumont. This is the first time Nicholls is off to its best start in SLC play since 2013. The Colonels' offense has the second most goals in the SLC (30) with 11 different players with at least one goal.
The balanced attack is led by senior midfielder
Alyssa Wheeler who has 17 points with a team-high six goals and five assists.
Olyvia Pugh has 12 points as she has four goals and four assists.
Jezlyn Nelson and
Sammi Doyle also have four goals while
Kaylie Harris and
Kate Guillory add three apiece. The Colonels' defense is anchored by goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright has registered 43 saves and three shutouts this season.
MCNEESE BENCH
Last week, McNeese (7-5, 2-1 SLC) picked up victories over SFA (3-2) and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (2-0). The Cowgirls offense has nine players with at least one goal.
The attack is led by Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond who has four goals and two assists while Sumayah Brown adds three goals. Isabella Baltov, Gabbi Barusic, Emma Korhonen, and Vitoria Mitre has two goals apiece. Goalkeepers Shannon Dempsey and Celeste Marijnissen has recorded 30 saves apiece.
SERIES HISTORY
Nicholls trails the all-time series 34-4-2. The Colonels have lost 14 consecutive meetings with the Cowgirls with their last victory coming in a neutral site contest in Beaumont in 2014. The Red & Gray's only road victory in the series was in 2004.
