THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was beaten 3-0 by Stephen F. Austin inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams started strong as Nicholls matched SFA's 16 kills, however the Colonels committed 10 errors which allowed the Ladyjacks to take the opening set 29-27. After the hot start, the Colonels lost all of their momentum as they posted negative hitting percentages in the second and third set which they lost 25-11 and 25-12, respectively.
Nicholls had a balanced offense as four players finished with at least five kills.
Kera Arrington led the way with seven kills followed by
Madison Smith (6).
Zahahrah Edwards-Wyllie and
Amelie Shalfoon who had five apiece while
Maya Schirmer had the team's best hitting percentage (.250) with four kills.
The Colonels' attack was paced by setters
Isabella Padilla and
Jenna Cicherski who had 15 and 12 assists, respectively. The Red & Gray defense was ancored by libero
Natalia Navarro who had 15 digs.
For SFA, Katherine Holtman led the offense with 10 kills followed by Avery Koonsen (8), and Molly Cravens (7). Aniston Collins and Madi Zorn ran the offense and finished with 15 assists apiece. Koonsen nearly had a double-double as she led the team in digs with 15.
