THIBODAUX, La. – Sophomore
Angelina Rispone scored two goals in the Nicholls State University women's soccer team 2-1 victory of Stephen F. Austin at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Thursday night.
After both teams battled for over 30 minutes, Rispone scored a pair of goals with shots outside the box the put Nicholls up 2-0 at the intermission. The first goal was set up by
Kaylie Harris who connected with Rispone who then fired a shot from long range that hit off the cross bar and found the back of the net. Rispone was opportunistic for her second goal as she collected a rebound and sent the ball past the goalkeeper to double the Red & Gray lead just before the half.
The Colonels held the two-goal advantage for most of the second half until SFA's Sawyer Kohutek converted a penalty kick with five minutes remaining. The Ladyjacks had a few more opportunities late but the Colonels shut the door.
Overall, the Colonels had more possession and took three more shots than the Ladyjacks. Rispone led the team in shots with three attempts while
Kate Guillory and
Alyssa Wheeler had two shots.
Olyvia Pugh,
Jezlyn Nelson, and Harris took one shot apiece. Nicholls goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright saved two of the seven total shots by SFA.
The victory for the Colonels is the first in the series against the Ladyjacks since 2018. The win is also the first time Nicholls has recorded multiple SLC victories in a season since 2017.
