Nicholls T&F Ready for SLC Indoor Championships

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the 2026 Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26.

Nicholls has had a strong regular season where they competed at the LSU Purple Tiger, McNeese Indoor II, and Bulldog Invitational hosted by Samford. In the final meet of the regular season the Colonels racked up 26 top 10 finishes at the Birmingham Complex.

Nicholls head coach Stefanie Slekis spoke about how advantageous competing in Birmingham earlier in the season can be for the teams.

"There is an advantage to being at the facility just 12 days ago not only from the perspective of knowing how the surfaces feel to compete there, but also the competition day routine," Slekis said.

Slekis also spoke about how the squads have looked during the preparation leading up to the Championships.

"Training has been going really well; coming off a great meet in Birmingham it was important for us to recover but also get 1-2 key sessions in and those went really well so we are very excited about how our student-athletes will be able to show off their peak fitness at the championship," Slekis said.

Lastly, Slekis talked about her goals and expectations for the teams.

"We have big goals for this championship. We feel every individual on our team has the ability to set personal bests in their event or at a minimal season best. We also know we can break more school records and all-times marks. If we take care of maximizing our abilities on the day we know those performances will set us up well against our competitors as well," Slekis said.
