THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team got back in the win column on Wednesday as the Colonels defeated Southern, 4-0, at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Nicholls (4-10) and Southern (3-10) not only had to battle each other, but had to deal with the weather as play was halted multiple times due to lightning and rain. But once play resumed, the Colonels went on to secure their fourth shutout of the season.
Julia Bordiginon and
Jada Iverson started things off with a quick 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Aada Inna and
Paulina Villegas followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point.
Blanca Losada and
Amalie Grube Andersen held a 4-3 edge when play was suspended.
In singes play,
Noemie Piquet dominated her opponent at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Andersen took both of her matches at No. 5, 6-1, and Iverson ended the match at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.Â
For Villegas/Inna, the duo improved to 9-5 in doubles after winning their fourth consecutive match.Â
