THIBODAUX, La. - For the second year in a row, the Nicholls State University football team will be one of the first teams in the country to kickoff the season as the Colonels host Mississippi Valley State on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start on Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium. Tickets are available by clicking

Nicholls made headlines last year in its Week 0 20-6 victory over No. 5/4 UIW. The matchup was not only the first nationally-televised game at Guidry Stadium, but it marked the first career win for head coach
Tommy Rybacki who made his debut at the helm after serving as the defensive coordinator for 10 seasons.Â
The Colonels closed out the year by winning its final three home games which included victories over in-state rivals McNeese and Northwestern State. Nicholls posted a 4-1 record at Guidry Stadium in Rybacki's first campaign.
Fans will be treated with a second straight season opener at home, marking the first time since 2002-04 that the Colonels made consecutive season debuts in Thibodaux. Nicholls outscored the three opponents in those games 170-20.Â
This year, the Colonels have a total of six home games on the schedule. It will be the first time since 2006 that the Red and Gray will have six regular season contests at Guidry Stadium. Season tickets are still available by visiting
