THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University football team received votes in this week's edition of the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll, as the organization released its weekly poll on Monday.

Nicholls received two points following its Southland-opening win over UTRGV, which headed into the matchup receiving votes in both national polls.  The Colonels were ranked in both polls last season following their close setback at FBS Troy, and last received votes prior to the Texas State game on Sept. 20. 

In addition to Nicholls receiving votes, linebacker Kennon Loftin was recognized on the national level as well as he earned Stats Perform FCS Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention.

Loftin recorded 12 tackles and an interception in the Colonels' victory over the Vaqueros. He was also named SLC Defensive Player of the Week earlier on Monday for his effort.

Nicholls will head to Texas this Saturday (Sept. 19) for its first meeting with Sam Houston since 2021. A longtime rival, the Bearkats now compete at the FBS level. The Colonels will return to Guidry Stadium on Sept. 26 to host nationally-ranked Lamar in Southland action. Tickets are available here.
