THIBODAUX, La. -- After taking the first two sets, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team dropped three consecutive frames in a five-set loss to Grambling inside Stopher Gym on Wednesday night.
Nicholls got out to an excellent start as they registered 21 kills and just seven errors with a .286 hitting percentage to take the first set, 27-25. The Colonels kept their momentum rolling into the second set as they had 15 kills with a .216 hitting percentage en route to 25-22 set victory.
As the Red & Gray offense slowed down Grambling was able to take advantage of 10 Colonel errors to take the third set, 25-16. Despite Nicholls recording 17 kills, the Tigers kept rolling as they posted a .286 hitting percentage and won the fourth set, 25-20. Grambling won the final stanza 15-12.
Nicholls offense featured two setters as
Isabella Padilla led all players with 39 assists whilke
Jenna Cicherski added 21.
Kera Arrington led all scorers with 21 kills while
Zahahrah Edwards-Wyllie had 15.
Mckenzie Mitchell recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 19 digs.
Natalia Navarro anchored the defense with 22 digs while
Lizzie Kraft added nine.
Maya Schirmer had four blocks while
Harper Holden and Arrington had two apiece.
For Grambling, Lyric Jordan led the offense with 18 kills followed by Kenya Lucas (11), and Rihianna Brown (9). The Tigers offense was paced by Alayna Howard and Reece Cook who had 29 and 22 assists, respectively.
The Tiger's defense was stout at the net as Brown and Lucas combined for 14 blocks. Asialin Powell led the unit in digs (24) followed by Cook (10) and Jordan (9).
The Colonels are now 12-3 against Grambling dating back to 1991. After sweeping the season series, this is the first time the Colonels have dropped consecutive matches to the Tigers.

Nicholls (6-5) will wrap up non-conference action against Southern and Jacksonville State at the Crimson Tide Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Friday, Sept. 18.
