Jamie McMahon begins his second year as a part of the Nicholls baseball coaching staff. The Hattiesburg, Miss. native has been coaching for over a decade and comes to the Colonels after helping to build Pearl River Community College into a regional powerhouse.
McMahon began coaching at PRCC in 2001 as an assistant before taking the reins as a head coach in 2005. In 2002, McMahon helped PRCC to a JUCO World Series appearance. In 2004, PRCC claimed a Mississippi state JUCO Championship. As the head coach, McMahon led PRCC to state and regional runner-up finishes in 2008. In his nine years as an assistant and head coach at PRCC, McMahon's teams won four conference championships.
Before his time at Pearl River, McMahon coached at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Miss from 1999-2000. In his second season at Meridian, McMahon worked with future Major League pitcher and 2008 American League Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee, and McMahon's team earned a trip to the JUCO World Series.
Through his coaching career, more than ten players who were under his tutelage have gone on to professional careers, including Lee and Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rhyne Hughes.
As a player, McMahon began his college careera at Meridian Community College in 1994 before finishing at William Carey University. In his first season at MCC, McMahon helped Meridian to a third place finish at the 1994 JUCO World Series.
McMahon will work with the Colonel infielders, serve as hitting coach and base-running instructor and assist with recruiting.
