Biography

2012 Season (Senior): Appeared in 10 games... caught four passes for 27 yards... best game came against McNeese where he had three receptions for 23 yards.

2011 Season (Junior):  Played in six games as a junior… recorded two receptions for 13 yards… had a reception in each of the first two games.

2010 Season (Sophomore): Made the switch from defensive back to wide receiver… played in all 11 games including 10 starts… tied for fifth on the team in receptions (12) while tallying 173 yards and a touchdown… first career score came on a career-best 52-yard reception against Bacone College… caught the game-winning two-point conversion against Texas State in quadruple overtime… had two rushes for 12 yards on the season… returned one kick for 19 yards.


2009 Season (Freshman): Played in 10 games for the Colonels, all as a defensive back…had a total of 20 tackles that included 10 solo and one pass break up… best performance came against Texas State with seven total tackles (five solo) and one pass breakup.

At Northeast Jones: Led the Tigers with 1,569 total yards (933 passing) as a senior... had 12 passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns... named 2008 Division 5-4A Most Valuable Back... selected All-Division First Team... All-State Honorable Mention.

Personal: Born on December 17, 1990 in Laurel, Mississippi… son of Felicia Shanks and Raymond Nichols… has a younger brother named Malik Newell… majoring in allied health.
