Bobby April

Bobby April enters his first season as the special teams coordinator/safeties coach for Nicholls, and joins the Colonel staff after spending the previous three seasons at fellow Division I-FCS school Portland State.

April was responsible for the special teams and inside linebackers for Vikings, and worked with All-Americans Jordan Senn and Andy Schantz during his tenure. Both have since gone on to play in the NFL. April's special teams units also ranked among the nation's best, finishing the 2008 season ranked 20th in net punting, while also coaching the Big Sky's leading kick returner Aaron Woods.

In 2009, Portland State ranked fourth or better in every special teams category in the Big Sky. Prior to his stint with the Vikings, April spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Tulane. April assisted the Green Wave's defensive, primarily the defensive line, and was in charge of the scout team and the scouting report.

A native on Mandeville, La. and an alumnus of St. Paul's Episcopal, April graduated with his bachelor's degree in 2005 from Louisiana-Lafayette. April served as a student coach for the Ragin Cajuns, and spent summers interning in the NFL. His summer internships in the NFL include stops at the Buffalo Bills (2004), Jacksonville Jaguars (2003), and the St. Louis Rams (2002).

April is the son of Nicholls alumni and long-time NFL coach Bobby April who is currently with the Philadelphia Eagles. Bobby April has spent 15-plus years in the NFL as a special teams coordinator.

The 28-year old is single and resides in Thibodaux.
