Brian Wallace is in his seventh season with the Nicholls State University football program. After coaching the linebackers in the first two, he is in his fifth year as safeties coach.
In his six years with Colonels, Wallace helped orchestrate the Red and Gray’s resurgent defense. For the last four campaigns, his unit has had at least one All-Southland performer. Kevin Moore III earned first-team honors in the spring 2021 season and in 2019 after leading the team in tackles in both seasons. Moore's 112 tackles in the '19 championship was the most for a Colonel defender since 2000.
Khristian Mims also garnered third-team in '19 after being named second team in 2018. Ahmani Martin was a two-time selection in 2017 and '18, while Corey Abraham was named second team in '17.
In 2016, the defense improved in points allowed and total defense, and went from 10th in rushing defense to fourth. And after the team had just two sacks in 2014, outside linebacker Geoffrey Hebert more than doubled the total himself in 2015 as he finished with 4.5 sacks and was second on the team with eight tackles for loss.
Wallace, a native of Port Orange, Fla., came to Nicholls after coaching at his alma mater, Louisiana College, for three seasons. While at LC, he served as co-defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2014, he helped guide an LC defense that ranked second in the American Southwest Conference in turnover margin at plus-eight.
Wallace coached with Tim Rebowe at Louisiana for three seasons, working as a defensive and special teams assistant coach. While at UL, the Ragin’ Cajuns won their first-ever bowl game by defeating San Diego State, 32-30, in the 2011 New Orleans Bowl.
A 2008 graduate of Louisiana College, Wallace was a four-year member of the Wildcat football team from 2004-08, playing linebacker while serving as a two-time team captain. Following his playing career at LC, he spent one year as linebackers coach for the Wildcats in 2009, where he coached three All-conference performers.
Wallace and his wife, Allison, reside in Thibodaux with their son, Beau, and daughter, Blake.
